In this blog, I’ve decided to share my ultimate favourite books, movies and songs with you.

So today’s topic is the Magic 7.

Whenever I read these books, watch these movies or listen to these songs, my mood instantly gets uplifted and I feel that I am ready to conquer the world. So here is my gift to YOU!

By ORSI KOVACS

Let's start with the books!

  1. I love almost everything that Paulo Coelho has written. His works have been translated into 80 languages, and he’s one of the best-selling writers in the world. Coelho’s style is direct and accessible, he provides advice people can relate to, meditate on, and follow at their own convenience. I remember that when I first got The Alchemist into my hand, I felt mesmerized. I’ve never read anything like that before.
  2. The Eleven Minutes is another great book of his that I would highly recommend.
  3. Csikszentmihalyi’s Flow is also a must read.
  4. I loved The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and
  5. his book called A New Earth is also incredible.
  6. If you would like to read something lighter that still has a great message, then Daniel Keynes’ Flowers for Algernon is for you.
  7. Any time I just want to get away from daily problems, I read one of Cecilia Ahern’s writings. I’m sure most of you have already heard of her most famous book called PS. I love you!

“Laughter is the best medicine!” –  Bennett Cerf

Now let's move on to the best movies of all time!

  1. The fist one I would like to recommend is a true story about an unemployed single mother who becomes a legal assistant, and almost single-handedly brings down a Californian power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply. The movie is called Erin Brockovich.
  2. Shirley Valentine. For those of you who have not seen this movie, let me give you a short overview. Shirley is a middle-aged Liverpool housewife who finds herself talking to the wall, while she prepares her husband’s chips and eggs, wondering what happened to her life. She compares scenes in her current life with what she used to be like and feels she’s stagnated and in a rut. But when her best friend wins an all-expenses-paid vacation to Greece for two, Shirley begins to see the world, and herself, in a different light.
  3. Divergent. Well I’m sure most of you have already seen this movie. Tris Prior lives in a futuristic world in which society is divided into five factions. As each person enters adulthood, he or she must choose a faction and commit to it for life. Tris chooses Dauntless — those who pursue bravery above everything else. However, her initiation leads to the discovery that she is a Divergent and will never be able to fit into just one faction. Warned that she must conceal her status, Tris uncovers a dangerous war which threatens everyone she loves.
  4. Bridesmaids. This film is hilarious and I just love the soundtrack of this movie. Annie is a single woman whose life is a mess, but when she learns that her lifelong best friend, Lillian, is engaged, she has no choice but to serve as the maid of honor. I’m not going to go into further detail regarding the story as if you have not seen this movie yet, then it is definitely high time for that.
  5. Playing by Heart (one of my favourite movies of all times from 1998. I don’t only love this film because of the extraordinary performance of the well-known actors and actresses but also because its quote about love that was so accurate and something I have not heard before. “The wonderful thing about falling in love is that you learn everything about that person…and so quickly. And if it’s true love, you start to see yourself through their eyes. It brings out the best in you…it’s almost as if you were falling in love with yourself.”
  6. Joy is the story of the title character, who rose to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty. It is a movie about hope, dreams, creating, and finding oneself. I would highly recommend you watch this film if you haven’t seen it yet.
  7. Let me finish this list with an amazing movie. It is an American drama about a young boy who is troubled by his mother’s alcoholism and fears his abusive but absent father. The new social studies teacher gives the kids an assignment to think of an idea that would change the world and put it into action. Our hero decides to do a favour to three people in need. In return, all that the child wants is that they pass on the good deed to three other people and keep the cycle going. I’m not going to go into further details regarding the story, but I would highly encourage you to watch this movie. Probably all of you are wondering by now what the name of the film is, so let me spill the beans…the movie is called: Pay it Forward (2000). I truly wish there were more people out there like Trevor. The message of the film is to encourage all of us to embrace the incredible power of giving, and to show each other that we care and that there is love, hope, and magic all around us.

“Life is about enjoying yourself and having a good time!” –  Cher

  3. Whitney Houston: I wanna dance with somebody
  4. Beyonce – Single ladies
  5. Madonna: Material Girl

Silent meditation retreat in Thailand

One of my favorite quotes is from Le Petit Prince (1943) Antoine de Saint Exupéry.
Here is my secret. It is very simple.
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly;
What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
